Home Port
CISS participates in a series of projects and initiatives aiming and furthering eco-friendly energy consumption and production. Latest addition to the list concerns lowering energy consumption in private households.
In collaboration with ISIS Katrinebjerg, Center for Software Innovation and a number of private and public organisations, CISS has recently launched a new research project aiming to enable consumers to easily control the many different wireless technologies that can be found in private households - and thus lead to the consumer saving money and at the same time benefitting the environment.

The objective of ’Home Port’, as the project is called, is to develop a prototype of a control device that is capable of controlling a series of separate systems. This will enable the consumer to easily and efficiently control the energy consumption of the household - for instance by only needing to push one button in order to turn off all electrical appliances and turn down the heat, or by turning off the washing machine or other energy-consuming devices at the points of time in the day when the production costs of electricity are lowest.
First step on the way is enabling the many different wireless applinces to communicate with one common communications device - and make the device easy to operate, so that ordinary consumers can use it. Hopefully, these things will be ready for use in February 2010 when the Home Port project is finished.
